Rowan and Declan Heys are a 9 year-old girl and a 6 year-old boy born in Anchorage, Alaska, and now live in San Diego. They both love to read, love animals and have 14 pets: 2 cats, 1 dog, 2 rabbits, and 9 chickens!
They visited Kids Saving the Rainforest with their family where they saw lots of injured jungle animals so decided to start their own non-profit: Kids Saving Critters. The purpose of their group is to connect kids all over the world to learn from each other, help wildlife, and develop the skills to make our communities and the world a better place. Their first project is called Helping the Howlers. They are working with KSTR to build a huge enclosure for rescued howler monkeys. We rescue injured howlers but they get very depressed when they are alone and can even die from their sadness. Like humans, they cry tears when they are sad. We want to build a big enclosure there for 2 howlers that can't be released back into the wild, to live there permanently so that no injured howler coming to the sanctuary ever has to be alone again.
